Bathroom
The greatest accident risk in the shower room involves slipping and falling. The wet floors should always be dried after showering.
Slipping and falling is a common accident at home
The bathroom floor is particularly slippery when wet and thus requires care: always dry wet floors after taking a shower to avoid slipping. A coarse plastic mat placed on the floor or a floor made of coarse or small ceramic tiles reduce the risk of slipping in the bathroom. The bathroom floor can also be treated with an anti-slip agent. A rubber mat increases grip on a slippery floor. There are also special bath and anti-slip mats for shower areas.
A support handle on the shower wall is also a good solution for preventing slipping.
Slippery floors can be treated with an anti-slip agent purchased for this purpose, which can be obtained from, for example, hardware stores. The floor’s friction coefficient should increase greatly after the treatment. Anti-slip agents are suitable for all stone-based materials, such as tiles, marble and bathtub porcelain.
If an older person is living at home, a folding chair attached to a wall makes the bathroom safer.
Thermostatic tap prevents burns
Hot water causes numerous burns every year. Water does not have to be boiling hot to cause damage: hot water straight from the tap can hurt the skin, especially children’s.
Small children are more susceptible to severe burns than adults because children are smaller. Also, the fact that the child may not understand the severity of the burn poses a danger as the child is unable to act appropriately after being injured. Thermostatic taps and child-proof faucets at home reduce the risk of burns.
The safest option for families with children are taps the outer surface of which does not heat up. The safety knob on the tap ensures that the water temperature is not accidentally set too hot. If you are travelling in countries where separate hot and cold taps are used instead of thermostatic taps, remember to explain children how to use the taps and their safety risks.
It is a good idea to keep the washing machine tap closed in the laundry room whenever the machine is not in use. Additionally, the washing machine should only be used under supervision. To ensure the safety of small children, toxic detergents and chemicals should be stored out of the reach of children.
The water supply tap of a laundry machine kept in the bathroom should be in the off position whenever the machine is not in use.

Slipping and falling
Most home and leisure time accidents are falls or low-level drops. Falls occur to people of all ages, but the risk and severity of the consequences increase with age.

Safety Checklists
Home, cabin, and child safety can be improved with small changes. Using safety checklists, you can assess how safe your environment is. You can also share the results of the tests on social media.
